1. Winter sports for all
Snowboarding, freeride, heli-skiing, paragliding and much more – Austria offers a lot of options for lovers of mountain sports, and everything will be organized at the world level. The most famous ski resorts are located in the federal states of Tyrol, Salzburg and Vorarlberg. But it is also possible to break away in full in Styria, Carinthia and Upper Austria: they, too, border on the alpine massif, which occupies 60% of the territory of the state.Austria is particularly distinguished by a developed infrastructure with modern lifts (a total of 2,563) and a variety of ski slopes, the total length of which is 7,227.4 km. In some highland areas, thanks to glaciers (such as Kitzsteinhorn and Stubai), winter sports can be practiced in spring and autumn. And Tux, located at the level of 3,250 m above sea level, is a year-round alpine ski resort that can please guests with 18 tracks and 10 ski lifts.
2. Winter’s Tale
From late December to mid-January, Austrian cities are saturated with Christmas atmosphere.
In the central square, colorful Christmas markets are opened, where you can buy handmade souvenirs, taste traditional delicacies, admire elegantly decorated buildings and drink mulled wine and punch.
In the mountains in early December until the spring lies snow. Lovers of romance and unhurried walks can enjoy fabulous views of the snow-capped peaks covered with fluffy spruces, or spend a cozy evening in a wooden hut, basking in the fireplace and sipping Austrian red.
To feel yourself in a real fairy tale, go on a trip through the winter forest on a sleigh pulled by horses. Under the sound of hooves and the sound of bells, it seems that a magical creature is about to peep out from behind a tree.
3. Thermal springs and body treatments
At the 39 thermal spas of Austria, everyone will find something to their liking: separate female or family zones, adult-only zones, saunas, spa programs and many special offers.
Most of the thermal springs, 11, are located in Styria, followed by Lower Austria, where there are 7 such facilities. However, Western Austria is not inferior to it in any way, where the highest quality of service and a lot of pleasant options for pastime are offered to guests by Gastein’s terms, Aqua complex Dome in Ötztal, the Tauern Spa resort overlooking the Kitzsteinhorn and the Roman Baths on the Alpine Skiing Track – Römerbad in Bad Kleinkirchheim.
Other well-known thermal complexes: St. Martins on Neusiedl, Thermes Laa, Therme Laa and Therme Geinberg, Vienna Thermes, Loipersdorf, Rogner Bad Blumau and Parktherme Bad Radkersburg.
4. Excellent value for money
Austria can be safely called the best holiday destination for lovers of mountain sports. Austrian resorts occupy the highest positions in the ratings in terms of price-quality ratio. Areas such as Wilder-Kaiser-Brixental and Schladming-Planai are considered the most accessible among 5-star ski areas in Europe.
Wilder Kaiser offers 284 km of prepared pistes, lighted toboggan runs and Austria’s largest night skiing area. Daily ski pass will cost you 49 euros.
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, which has 68 lifts and 214 km of tracks, is one of the most famous resorts with a developed infrastructure for families with children.
In Schladming, 230 km of slopes, already in early autumn, you can ride on the Dachstein glacier.
Despite the excellent skiing conditions and first-class service, prices for room and board in Austria are among the most affordable in all of Europe.
